Closing in on the final four and I have to say this has been a relatively uneventful tournament. There weren't very many upsets and not to many close games until the wee hours of the morning.

I wonder how much the agents helped Uconn really??

March, for real??

Published 3/20/2009 by Rick in golf | sports

So march madness started yesterday and once again I am reminded why I love it.  I always take off Thursday and Friday and watch every game I can.  I fill out a couple of brackets but it is just for fun. I usually root against my bracket and hope for the big upset.

I was supposed to go golfing thursday morning for the first time of the season with my father but it was supposed to rain so we rescheduled for friday. Well it doesn't rain until around 1:00 on Thursday so we would have been able to get our round in but whatever. We watch college hoops all day and part ready to hit the links today.

I wake up at 6:00 am and get ready, I am sitting on my couch having a cup of coffee and my brother comes in and says it is snowing.  I go look and sure enough it is snowing outside. We decide it can't last and decide to head out anyway. We get to the course and it is covered in snow. The clubhouse offers us a cup of coffee while we wait.  We have out coffee and decide it aint gonna happen, so we decide to go out to breakfast.

Breakfast was horrible, they got our order wrong then it was cold and the coffee was horrible.   We decide to call it a day and on our way back to my house we realize it is not snowing around here so we head further south and try another course, as soon as we get there it starts snowing. We leave, and head back home. About an hour later it in sunny and 10 degrees warmer. DAMN.

Ricky is officially a bike rider

Published 3/18/2009 by Rick in family | Ricky

So we took Ricky over to the park where they have a mile loop on thinking he would get some more little riding time with us running behind him, however I was brave and got him started and just stopped.  He made it about 1000 ft then stopped at his mother.  It was amazing, the sense of pride, and sense of awe was fantastic. I couldn't believe that my little boy was riding a bike without training wheels and no one holding onto him. It was awesome.

I absolutely love march madness. I love the sport of it, but more then that I love the human side of it.  I love seeing the smaller schools playing their heart out to get into the dance and then from there they are just amazing.

I would rather see a smaller school win then watch another major conference team win it all.  Every year I fall for Gonzaga in my brackets and every year they let me down.  They are just like the Bills or the Braves, they are damned good just not good enough. Not this year, they are not going to get me. Mind you this is all said prior to the brackets being announced so who really knows.

Now the bike riding, we went out and got some stuff for the summer as we as a family want to go on more bike rides, so we got helmets for me and my wife, water bottles a small under the seat bag for the keys and such and then we got this for Ricky:

We are hoping this will help him learn to ride a little quicker as it is not so painful for us to reach down to his seat and help him.  We have used it two days now and already he is able to keep his balance for about 20 seconds at a time.  He is just a little scared to do it.

Now onto the relationships part, I am a big talker, I like to talk about what I am doing, watching or about to participate in. I'll talk about it with anyone who is near, regardless of their interest in the subject.  Well today this proved to be a problem for my wife.  So from here on out I am not going to discuss my interests. Yeah let's see how well that works.

New Business

Published 3/13/2009 by Rick in BlogEngine.NET | Development

So me and the mrs have decided on a new Business and my "fun" development has been put on hold and I am now developing the site and application for the business.

I did manage to learn about asp.net 3.5 entity data sources yesterday, that was pretty cool.  I was thinking that maybe I could have used blogengine.net for the business site as I think i want to have a blog but i was unable to find an extension for what I wanted and in the limited time I have to get this up and running I didn't want to learn the ins and out of the blogengine. So maybe next time.

So I have now allowed the created of a new league and a new franchise.

Since I am doing this with XML and not a database I am trying to remove all the backend of the xml creation and updating to specific classes for it that way they in turn could be updated to handle with a database if I am finding that XML is not working for me. As for tutorials, I have the blogengine.net source on my machine and that is proving to provide me so far with all the XML related examples I could ask for.

So My son Ricky has Eosinaphilic Esophogitus, an eating disorder, but not in the way that most people think.  He can't eat food. Well that's not entirely true, he can't eat a lot of foods, in fact most foods. Right now he is eating Soy and Buffalo. He has a scope tomorrow and I hate these.

I will in the future explain more about his disease and the amazing person that he is.

So while I did get the red rings they went away as quickly as they came. Had some friends over last night for some good food, good beer and good times.

I tried Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Otter Creek Copper Ale. They Sierra Nevada was a bit bitter for my normal tastes however I did enjoy it. It had some fruity undertones to it. The bitter was not a true bite though. It was a nice bitter. The Otter Creek was more my style, it had a caramel taste to it and much less of a bite. The two of them together were a perfect match.

So we played some rock band 2 and had a great time. I finished a couple songs on expert and survived some others. The funniest moment of the night came while playing living on a prayer on Expert, playing the Bass and that bass line just was rough and we get to the final chorus and I had died once already. Then our singer (my wife) gets the giggles and fails out of the song. With me struggling to keep up, our guitarist and Drummer were left to carry the load and the band failed out, ON THE LAST NOTE. 96% complete and we had to do it all again.

So as I have said I am developing a stat tracking site and I think I am going to undo what I have done and convert to using XML instead of using a database. I want to do this for a couple of reasons, 1. My host allows me 1 free database. I can add more but at a cost and since this is just a hobby I can't justify the expense. 2. I need to learn how to use XML and .net and I am more of a project driven guy then a learn through abstraction. So I will update here with any good tutorials and lessons I learned.

Red Ring

Published 3/5/2009 by Rick in video games
So for the third time I have officially gotten the red ring of Death. For those that don't know this is basically when you xbox 360 decides to crap out on you, leaving you high and dry. The good news is that it is still under warranty from Microsoft and will be fixed for nothing. The bad news is I wasn't able to play in the LS Left 4 Dead night and will probably miss a Gears and Beers night tomorrow. Hopefully I can borrow a system for Sunday night as I play in a Gears League and don't like letting people down.

Chicken Wings

Published 3/4/2009 by Rick in Cooking | Food

I convinced my wife to by a depp fryer last year and started making wings, well I wasn't happy with any sauce that I had come up with until about 6 months ago. I had been making Buffalo bites with them but hadn't broken out the deep fryer again. That is until about 2 weeks ago.

I managed to make wings that I was happy with, they came out fantastic.

Here is FOOD PORN

I just don't get it

Published 3/3/2009 by Rick in Misc

So apparently I don't understand alot about alot of people.

I am trying to do nice things for people and ensure they do not get this nasty VUNDO virus that is heading around and that gets me shit. I catch shit about it because the computer can not be used while it is being scanned and protected.

I don't understand that.
